Residents at Derwent Lodge enjoyed an afternoon of music and celebration during a recent ‘Afternoon at the Proms’ event.
The event featured a programme of live performances with professional harpist Myles Wright captivating guests with a musical journey that included much-loved favourites such as Scarborough Fair and Moon River. Residents and their families were encouraged to sing along, filling the room with music, laughter and plenty of happy memories.
Adding to the afternoon’s entertainment, accomplished pianist Klevis Skarra, a Care Assistant at the home, showcased his musical talents with a selection of piano pieces performed on the home’s very own baby grand piano. The instrument, which holds pride of place within the home, provided the perfect centrepiece for the Proms-themed celebration.
The event was organised by Wellness Lead Miriam Bethune, who regularly arranges activities designed to support people’s wellbeing.
Miriam said: “Music has an incredible way of bringing people together and evoking special memories. It was wonderful to see residents, their families and their friends enjoying the performances, singing along and sharing such a joyful afternoon.
“The atmosphere was fantastic from start to finish, and we were delighted to make the most of our beautiful baby grand piano while welcoming the talented Myles Wright to entertain everyone.”
